BIOGRAPHY

​Gaku Kato was born on August 18, 1990 in Kanagawa, Japan. He is currently based in Tokyo and works as a portrait and fashion photographer.​

During high school, Became interested in creativity and craftsmanship under the influence of friends in the design dept. Inspired by the exhibition "Snapshots Cast Their Spell [Radiant Moments]" (Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, 2010) and decided to become a photojournalist. Majored in journalism at university, but gradually began to desire to take purer portraits. After graduating, Studied under Hidekazu Maiyama as an assistant photographer. In 2019, Became independent and open his photo office. Since then, Mainly has taken portraits for various editorials. While keeping in mind the expression of a story through styling and spatial direction, pursuing a style that also emphasizes bringing out the model's identity.
